Maxie was known by all as the Family Historian. Genealogists would have a hard time doing their job without visiting Maxie, the Spears Encyclopedia of Secrets and Tales. A little lady, my cousin touted a big heart and personality the size of her beloved Cumberland County. "JT" my cousins all called me (Jasper Thomas) and loved to tease me and tell stories out of school but the love that I felt coming back to Homecoming and in Maxie's hug, made me complete. It was my honor knowing this fine lady from humble beginnings. Every person was important to her... because we all fit into the home of God. I will miss her.

Maxie Watson was a good woman. She was a genealogist who added significantly to what is known about the Spears family in Cumberland County, KY, North Carolina, and Maryland. She was a quilt maker with extraordinary talent. And, lastly, but most importantly, she loved her family dearly, especially her husband Perry and I know they are now re-united in Heaven. She will be missed by those who knew her well.
