Arilla Murley Obituary

Arilla Marie Butler Murley, 91, went home to heaven on Thursday, June 10, 2021. Arilla's life was a symphony of God's love, and she was a blessing to all who knew her.

She was born on October 14, 1929 to James Franklin and Cora Cary Butler in Gradyville, KY. She was married to her sweetheart, Bill Murley, for 43 years, and they were blessed with two children: Donna Hope and James Burris.

Arilla loved Jesus more than anything in this life, and bringing Him glory was her lifelong ambition. She was a gifted musician who was entirely self-taught and played multiple instruments, from the piano to the guitar and accordion. She always used her love of music to bless others, serving her church, Leslie United Methodist, as well as the community and Cumberland Valley Manor. After raising her children, she began working in activities at CVM, where she brought joy to so many for 27 wonderful years. Wherever she went, Arilla's mission was to show the love of God to others whether that was through a smile, a hug, a kind word, or a song. She is so loved by so many.

Arilla's favorite role of all was being a devoted Nanny to her five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Many a day was spent in Nanny's yard swinging, wading in the branch, or stomping through the woods. She was always ready with a listening ear and something sweet to eat.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Murley; brothers, Terry Butler, Paul Butler and Stanley Butler; sister, Ruth Murley; and brother-in-law, Norman Murley. She is survived by: a daughter, Donna Hope (& Jerry) Karr of Richmond; a son, Jim (& Barbara) Murley of Burkesville; five grandchildren, Aja Hope (& AJ) Jacobi of Richmond, Kris (& Megan) Karr of Washington, D.C., Chris (& Kristin) Murley of Bowling Green, Rachel Marie (and Brent) McDaris of Burkesville, and Sara (& Josh) Moore of Richmond; ten great-grandchildren: Hanah, Hope, Anne-Kelly, Rue, Myla, Cora, Tilly, Eli, Stockton, and Oscar; special nieces and nephews, Norma Jo Murley, Susan (& Randall) Davidson, Deborah (& Sam) Keen, Judy (& Mark) Knowles, and Tim (& Lisa) Murley; and many more beloved family and friends.

Pallbearers include: AJ Jacobi, Kris Karr, Chris Murley, Brent McDaris, Josh Moore, Hanah Moore, and Hope Moore. Honorary Pallbearers include: Randall Davidson, Todd Davidson, Joey Davidson, Lucas Davidson, Sam Keen, Andrew Keen, Leigh Ann Beevers, Mark Knowles, Joshua Knowles, Tim Murley, Brady Murley, Joe Murley, Dick Stockton, Doug Butler, Bobby Joe Butler, and Joe David Brown.
