Mrs. Betty Jean Cary, age 89 of Louisville, died peacefully at Nazareth Home on the evening of June 29, 2023.The daughter of the late Richard Harbison and Donnally Garmon, she was born in Marrowbone, Kentucky on January 8, 1934. At a young age, Betty Jean’s grandmother created her love of reading by reading her the Bible. Baptized into the Christian faith at Burkesville Christian Church, in Burkesville, Kentucky, she was a devout Christian her entire life. As an adult, Betty Jean had a career in banking for 13 years. She was also very proud and honored to have served on the hospital’s board of directors for 17 years. One of her greatest accomplishments was raising money to build an addition for the hospital. Aside from her love of books and helping those in need, Betty Jean had a passion for gardening, sewing and decorating, always striving to create a better world. Most of all, she loved her family. As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Betty Jean will be dearly missed by all who had the chance to know her. Preceding her in death are, in addition to her parents Richard and Donally, are her beloved husband, John Sam Cary, her brother James Richard Harbison, and her son-in-law Drew Haynes.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her three daughters Mary Haynes, Jeanne Morsman (David), and Cathy Vinson (John); five grandchildren, Molly Knigge, Katherine Morsman, Sam
Morsman, Tina Klein, and Sarah Jurgensen, and nine great-grandchildren. The family expresses gratitude to Nazareth Home and her friends and caregivers there who added much joy to her last year.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM Eastern Time Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Pearson’s Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, Kentucky 40207.A funeral service will follow the visitation at 6:00 PM at Pearson’s.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Central Time, Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Marrowbone Cemetery in Marrowbone, Kentucky. Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home Burkesville, KY in charge of local arrangements.
