Arrangement Conference

When a spouse, family member or close friend dies, you may find yourself unexpectedly responsible for taking care of his or her funeral arrangements. Here's what you need to know.

Information needed at the arrangement conference:

  1. Full name and middle initial of the deceased
  2. Date and place of birth
  3. Social security number
  4. Number of years of education
  5. Military record
  6. Marital status
  7. Father's name
  8. Mother's maiden name

Decisions that need to be made

  1. Type of funeral service
  2. Date and time of funeral
  3. Casket
  4. A memorial marker
  5. Vault or outer burial container
  6. Clothing
  7. Flowers
  8. Music
  9. Site for the service: church or funeral chapel
  10. Time of visitation and service
  11. Persons to participate at the funeral service
  12. Prayer cards, memorial folders, thank you notes
  13. Prayers and songs for the service
  14. Site for luncheon or gathering after the funeral

Personal Items Needed

  1. A recent photograph (preferably within the last 2 years)
  2. Glasses (if you want them to be worn)
  3. Clothes for the deceased to wear, including underwear for men and undergarments for women)
  4. Stockings or socks and/or booties (shoes are optional)
  5. Jewelry, service pins, medals, etc.
  6. Religious items (rosary, etc.)
  7. Favorite perfume or cologne

If these items are not available for the arrangement conference, they can be provided at a later time.
